The New York State Department of Transportation announced that crews have completed a $2.9 million project to reduce congestion and enhance safety at the intersection of Route 376 and Robinson Lane/Lake Walton Road in East Fishkill.

The improvements include additional turning lanes and a new traffic signal with left-turn phasing. Acting NYSDOT Commissioner Paul Karas said the now-completed project was designed to “improve traffic flow through one of East Fishkill’s busiest areas and improve access to nearby businesses and schools.”

“Additionally, located in a burgeoning commercial area, this intersection upgrade project supports commerce and economic growth,” Karas noted.

The project included the construction of left-turn lanes at each of the approaches to the intersection and added a right-turn lane at the northbound approach to Lake Walton Road. Crews installed a new traffic signal with left-turn phasing “to help reduce congestion and improve safety for motorists.”

According to the NYSDOT, “sidewalks and new curbing built along both sides of Route 376 will improve pedestrian safety and increase access to local stores, restaurants and businesses. Area schools, including Fishkill Plains Elementary School and the Van Wyck Junior High School should also benefit from the redesigned intersection’s improved traffic flow.”

We applaud the Department of Transportation’s efforts to improve the intersection which is one of many in the town in need of improvement,” East Fishkill Town Supervisor Nicholas D'Alessandro said. “Robinson Lane has long been an area of traffic congestion.  We were especially impressed by the quick completion of the project by the DOT and its contractor.  We are hopeful to get additional improvements in the near future.”

Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney said, “adding turning lanes will make driving safer and more efficient for thousands of people in Dutchess County every day – and I was proud to do my part in Washington to make funds available for projects just like this one.”
